Child’s Posture is a classic and powerful posture for all to practice, whether you are a beginner to yoga, intermediate, or advanced.  This posture assists in grounding one’s mind and intuition, while opening up the hip flexors and psoas—linked to anxiety and chronic stress if it gets too tight.  These are just a few reasons why Child’s pose is a great pose if one is ever needing to be grounded, re-center & wonderful to incorporate in nighttime rituals to assist in more restful sleep.  When practicing this pose, especially at night before bed, focus on releasing the day by lengenthing the exhale, allowing yourself to fully let go of anything and everything on your mind.  Then, start to utilize all your senses to visualize the room from a bird’s-eye-view, while your eyes are closed.  This not only physically de-stresses the body, but it also allows you to practice mindfulness by feeling more present in the here and now.  This will provide immediate results, but practiced consistently part of a nighttime routine will lead to feelings of being more calm both on the mat—and off the mat in life.
